Travel Gear Buying Guides

Travel backpacks, charging, and packing gear: what survives the overhead bin and what is worth the weight.

Travel gear gets judged by airports: cramped seats, strict carry-on sizers, and outlets in the wrong places. The right bag and charger turn a 14-hour trip from an endurance test into a non-event. This hub collects every GearSift travel guide.

What actually matters when buying

Fit the airline, not the fantasy. Most carriers cap carry-ons at 22 x 14 x 9 inches. A bag that fits the sizer on the worst airline on the itinerary beats a cavernous one that gets gate-checked.

A USB port on a backpack is pass-through only. It is a hole with a cable inside — the bag does not charge anything by itself. Bring a power bank; the port just saves digging it out.

Weight is a feature. An empty bag over 1.5 kg eats the carry-on allowance before anything goes in. Ultralight fabrics and minimal frames matter more than extra pockets.
