How GearSift Tests and Picks Products
How GearSift researches products: spec verification, buyer feedback analysis, and price checks. What is tested, what is not, and how often guides are updated.
GearSift does not run a testing lab, and this page will not pretend otherwise. Here is exactly what happens before a product makes it into a guide.
What GearSift does
- Spec verification. Every listed specification is checked against the manufacturer’s listing and at least one independent source. When specs conflict, the guide says so or drops the claim.
- Buyer feedback analysis. Order counts, rating distributions, and buyer-uploaded photos on AliExpress are reviewed. A product with thousands of orders and consistent photo reviews outranks one with a perfect score from twelve reviews.
- Price sanity checks. Listed price ranges are verified against live AliExpress listings at publishing time. Prices on marketplaces shift with sales and coupons, so every guide links out for the current price rather than quoting a single number as fact.
- Fit matching. Each pick gets a “Best for” label. A great product for the wrong person is a bad recommendation.
What GearSift does not do
- No hands-on testing claims. Unless a guide explicitly describes a measurement, the product was researched — not held, weighed, or worn. Phrases like “based on specs and buyer feedback” mean exactly that.
- No sponsored rankings. Placement is never sold. Affiliate links earn a commission at no extra cost to the buyer, and the affiliate disclosure explains the model.
- No fake negatives. Pros and cons come from recurring themes in buyer feedback and spec gaps, not invented balance.
How often guides are updated
Buying guides are reviewed at least every 90 days: prices re-checked, discontinued listings replaced, and new competitors considered. The date at the top of each guide shows the last meaningful update — not a cosmetic refresh.
Corrections
Specs change and mistakes happen. When an error is found, the guide is fixed and the update date changes. Readers who spot something wrong can reach out via the contact page.
